Ben Saiz is an ABF road driver domiciled in Estancia, New Mexico. He has distinguished himself behind the wheel by driving nearly a million miles and more than 10 years without an accident. Ben has earned numerous safety awards, including the ABF 10-year Safety Performance Plaque and the ABF 15-year Safe Driving Certificate.
Anthony (Tony) Spero, Stratford, Connecticut, driver/salesman, stresses patience and being attentive to detail when driving. He is very proud to be a truck driver and proud of ABF. One of his favorite job-related activities is taking an ABF unit to speaking engagements when he can share safety lessons with the general public. He knows it is important for him to do his part in educating the public about how the trucking industry is working to improve highway safety and control noise pollution.
Ralph Garcia is an ABF Road Driver from Albuquerque, N.M. His excellent driving record and good attitude about his company and his profession set an example for all professional drivers. Helping others is important to Ralph, and he carries that philosophy into his work arena. "We used to be known as 'knights of the highway.' We stopped and took the time to help or simply acted courteously out on the highway as we drove. I believe ABF is so successful because we have people who want to make a difference and care about other people."
Louisville, Ky. City Driver Richard Alford believes we can render efficient and courteous service and maintain our leadership in the transportation industry by making safety our top priority. He takes great pride in pleasing our customers and believes that pride will be reflected by continued and added business for our company.
Otto Schmeckenbecher is very serious about his profession and highway safety. He thinks that while everyone pretty well knows what it takes to do a safe job, it is helpful to be reminded. He is certainly qualified to speak on the subject, considering his excellent safety record. Otto has over three million accident-free miles as a professional truck driver.
"Being on the America's Road Team will allow me to reach many more people with our message of safety and security for the trucking industry," stated Garland Woods, a city driver for the Tulsa service center. "I am very honored and proud to work in an industry that is responsible for moving the majority of the freight and products that keep this great country of ours working."
He plans to use his ability to speak openly, frankly and always courteously with other people to promote the professional drivers and interests of the trucking industry.
With more than 25 years in the trucking industry, Albuquerque road driver, Ruben Armendariz believes, "Educating the motoring public, especially the young adults who are just beginning their driving years is critical. Driving safely around tractor-trailers is an important issue."
Ruben has been a road driver for ABF’s Albuquerque service center since 1990 and has accumulated 2 million accident-free miles.
Over 40 years and 3 1/2 million miles of safe driving make Dan Hiser one of the most experienced veterans in the trucking industry today. He credits much of his success as a driver to being alert to the ever-changing traffic and road conditions. "Keeping a constant check on my mirrors and looking way ahead have proved to be very beneficial," Dan said. He also believes that treating others on the highway as you would want to be treated helps lessen stress on the driver.
James Curtis is an Albuquerque, New Mexico Road Driver. He has been a professional truck driver for 30 years and has accumulated well over 2 million accident-free miles.
After more than 35 years as a truck driver, Albuquerque road driver Glen Ackerman feels he has a safety message for other drivers. As he says, "One can make a thousand look bad - and people remember the one, not the thousand."
