ABF Freight account managers have to have extensive knowledge of the services the company provides, as well as confidence in those services so they can find solutions for a customer’s unique needs.

Account Manager Candice Ervin had been in contact with a manufacturer for quite some time. She talked to them several times to better understand their business and their unique needs. She knew winter was the busiest time of year for their business, and by asking the right questions, she learned they required several time-sensitive shipments to locations all over the country.

What is a shipping pallet?

For those new to pallet shipping, a pallet is basically a portable platform used to bundle items and provide support when a shipment is lifted by a forklift, front loader, pallet jack or other jacking device. To keep everything in place, items on a pallet are normally secured with materials such as stretch wrap, straps or pallet bands. Pallets come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be made from a range of materials.

Even when a roadside emergency happens, ABF Freight finds a way to make on-time deliveries.

On a Thursday morning, a customer contacted Phil Atwell to see if ABF Freight could pick up a sizable shipment (six pallets totaling 11,300 pounds) in Michigan and get it delivered the next day in Sevierville, Tennessee, near Knoxville.

‘Excellent Service’ Pleases ABF Freight Customer

When a customer needed a shipment delivered sooner than planned, ABF Freight handled the request with ease.

A customer’s shipment was due to be delivered on a Monday, but on Wednesday, they contacted ABF Freight Operations Supervisor Bill Coombe asking if it instead could be delivered on Thursday.

Bill quickly traced the shipment and found it was scheduled to arrive Wednesday evening at an ABF Freight terminal 200 miles away. Bill assigned driver Daniel Swisher to pick up the shipment, and “he got the job done,” Bill said.

Shipping to Canada can be difficult for a shipper; it can even result in lost business without having a knowledgeable broker.

After a new customer began using ABF Freight to ship office furniture, Account Manager Jill Breen began talking about the customer’s Canadian shipments, and she explained ABF Freight’s capabilities into and out of Canada. She learned that if her customer’s Canadian customer did not have a broker, then they did not proceed with the sale. “It was simply a lost sales opportunity for them,” Jill said.

ABF Freight Solves Loading Process for Retailer’s Product Roll Out

When a national retailer needed to roll out shipments to 928 stores in just 11 shipping days, ABF Freight® was prepared for the large task.

The shipper needed to follow a very specific plan to get four pallets to each store and was concerned about the loading process. Branch Manager Kraig Gratiot consulted with Dan Trevino, cargo care manager for the region, and they agreed to schedule a driver at the loading site for the entirety of the project.
